East Cemetery

Opening time: from 10 am weekdays, 11am weekends

Closing time: 5pm British Summer Time (last admission 4.30pm)

Entry (cash only): £3 per adult, £2 for students. Children under 16 are free but must be accompanied by an adult. Children visiting as a group are charged £1 each.

Tours are on Saturdays at 2pm (15 people per tour). Tickets are sold on the day from 11am on a first come, first served basis. Tours cost £7 for adults, £5 for students and £3 suggested donation for children over 8 years old.

West Cemetery

Admission to the West Cemetery is by guided tour only. These last around one hour.

Weekdays: tours leave between 1.45 and 2 pm from 1st March to 30th November (15 people per tour). Booking is by telephone only on 020 8340 1834 on Mondays to Fridays between 10am-5pm.  A maximum of four (4) places may be booked per group. It is advisable to book as much in advance as possible.

Weekends: tours run at least hourly from 11am - 4pm.  No advance booking is available and tickets are sold on a first come first served basis (about 15 people per tour).

Entry (cash only): £7 per adult, , £5 for students, £3 for children aged 8 to 16. No admittance for infants and children under eight year old.

Dickens Tours

These are on Saturdays at 4.30 pm.  Adults £10 and students £8 (on production of a student card) and are cash only.

The tours give a fascinating glimpse into the life of Charles Dickens by visiting the graves of his wife Catherine, parents John and Elizabeth, sister Frances, brother Alfred as well as several of his friends and associates buried in Highgate.

Special Tours

These tours are for private groups of up to a maximum of 30.  They last 90 minutes and include an extended tour of the West Cemetery and a brief introduction and admission to the East. Visitors can stay in the East as long as they want.

Special Tours are available all year round on weekday mornings only and must be booked by telephone AND followed up with a completed booking form.

The minimum cost is £140 and this covers up to 10 people with additional spaces charged at £14 a head.  There is a non-refundable deposit of the minimum charge of £140 to secure the date. For further information and a booking form, please download the information sheet here.

 

Photography

This is allowed for personal use only and on condition that it does not impede the progress of tours. Video cameras, tripods and monopods are not permitted.  For professional or commercial photography please email the office giving as much detail of the project as possible. Each application for such photography is considered individually but permission is not guaranteed.
