East Cemetery Tours: There is a guided tour of the East Cemetery once a month, on the first Saturday of each month. Tours are about one hour in length and are limited to 15 people. Tickets are sold at the East Cemetery gate on the day of the tour on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. The tour cost of £7 includes entrance to the East Cemetery. Visitors are asked to gather at 2:15pm for a prompt start at 2:30pm.

Please note:  As Highgate is still a working cemetery, it is not open to visitors other than grave owners for the 30 minutes before and during the course of funerals.  Regretably, it is not possible to publish dates and times of every funeral that takes place.  Visitors arriving at the gates will be advised if a funeral is due to take place during their visit and tickets purchased before a funeral will be respected for the rest of the day.

It is essential to book for weekday tours by telephoning 020 8340 1834, preferably a week in advance - especially during holiday periods.  There is a maximum of four people per booking, and visitors are requested to arrive by 1.45pm. In December, January and February special tours can be arranged (see below).

  • This is a 'working' cemetery, with burials and stone settings taking place on a regular basis.  Visitors are asked to dress appropriately and to be sensitive to the needs of mourners and grave owners.
  • The average length of the West tour is one hour.
  • Surfaces are uneven and some of the tour is uphill. In wet
  • conditions, it is advisable to wear walking shoes or boots.
  • There are toilet facilities in the cemetery.
