Volunteering Opportunites

Highgate Cemetery welcomes volunteers to help in a variety of positions at the Grade 1 listed historic site. Over 50 people are currently volunteering in a variety of roles and some of our volunteers have been with us for many years.

The main positions available currently are to help with admissions, assisting visitors and grave owner’s and then progressing to leading guided tours in the East and West sides of the Cemetery or to help with the work of managing the landscape.

Full training is given for all volunteering positions. While we do not necessarily expect volunteers to have prior experience a good command of spoken English is essential. For those positions which involve dealing with the public, volunteers will need good  interpersonal skills and a friendly and approachable manner.

To find out more we suggest in the first instance you visit the Cemetery and take a tour to get a feel of how the Cemetery works. This will also enable you to meet some of the a volunteer guides and informally ask them about their experiences

Application forms to be a volunteer may be downloaded here

When we have received your application form we will contact you to discuss your application and if appropriate, suggest you come for interview.
